Pictoplasma Characters Design And Art Contest
Traditional animation, industrial production conditions have created a universally applicable visual system of interchangeable characteristics, predictable movements and a limited gestural vocabulary. Classical character design is the result of a standardized production process, reducing the art to a series of predetermined shapes, volumes and silhouettes. Now however the recent explosion of pictorial logos in the web, advertising and other media has opened the way for a new breed of character design. The pictoplasma animation festival is an integral part of the biannual pictoplasma conference on contemporary character design and art (Berlin, Germany). The cultural screenings are organized by pictoplasma and offer festival visitors and conference participants an overview of international animations, short films and motion graphics, focussing on stylish and fresh character-driven visuals and narratives. There is no submission fee.
